Steady start for Ashley in Ginetta Junior
Ashley is looking for his first podium of the Ginetta Junior at Thruxton this weekend (17/18 May).
Despite rolling out of his last race at Donington Park (4 May), the 16-year old’s confidence had received a huge boost when he took 4th place in the previous day’s race — giving him his best finish to date.
“Rolling the car was a bit scary, and even though it looked very second-hand afterwards, I was fine. We’ve worked day and night to rebuild the car in time for Thruxton, and I’m 100% confident that we’re now able to challenge for podiums. In fact, the crash has motivated me even more because after my performance in the first race at Donington, I really believed that we’d pushing for a top three on Sunday.”
Although he’s never raced at the Hampshire circuit before, Ashley is looking forward to getting to grips with Britain’s fastest circuit.
“Technically it’s my home track, so a lot of my family and friends from Bournemouth are coming to support me. From what I’ve seen of Thruxton, it’s a place that requires lots of commitment through every corner. I’ll need to do well in qualifying to get further up the grid and if I do that, then I think I can put up a challenge for a top three finish.”
