‘I will fight to the finish’

Ashley vows to clinch top ten position in season finale

Ashley says he is not giving up on his hopes of finishing inside the Ginetta Junior championship top ten despite enduring a tough time at Mallory Park (Leicestershire) last weekend (6/7 September).

The Broadstone teenager has been a frequent top-ten runner but found his usual pace eluded him at the second of the season’s two double-header events.

Ashley is now in 11th place in the championship table but is determined to finish inside the top ten with a final flurry at Brands Hatch later this month (20/21 September).

The Corfe Hills 6th-former insisted that he could finish well enough in the season’s remaining two races at the Kent circuit, to move up the order.

Mallory was very much a weekend to forget and I dropped vital points but I think I can still do it at Brands,” said Ashley. “I’ve just got to make sure I get the best out of the car. I know the track and have gone well there before. I’ll be giving it everything.

Reflecting on his performance at Mallory Park, where he finished in 19th and 13th in the two races, Ashley said, “In testing I’d been really quick but when I went out in Timed Qualifying, I just wasn’t quick enough. I don’t understand it.

There's no point dwelling on it. You have days like this, whether you’re in motor racing, football or any other sport but one thing is, never give up.

This year was always going to be a learning year and I said that a top ten finish in my first season of car racing would be good. I’ve really enjoyed the season so far and I’ve delivered some very positive results. I just want to end the season on a high and take that forward into next year.
