Steady start for Ashley in Ginetta Junior
Despite a string of recent set-backs, Ashley believes he can pull off a surprise result at the challenging Croft circuit, near Darlington this weekend (31 May/1 June).
The 16-year old Ginetta Junior racer has had a difficult debut season in the sportscar category for teenagers, with two heavy crashes and suspension failure marring some solid performances in previous rounds.
He said “I’m fairly confident for Croft. I like the circuit a lot – it’s a combination of tight and flowing corners and is quite a fast track. Everytime I race, I’m improving. I tested at Croft in March and went well there, so I’m focused on doing a good job at the weekend.”
The action will take place on Saturday and Sunday with the drivers having a timed qualifying session early on Saturday afternoon, before racing at 5:15pm.
Ashley says: “I can’t afford anymore non-finishes in the Championship. Qualifying well at Croft will be important, so I’ll need to try and get a tow off someone and slipstream them down the straights to help me get a quick time. From there, my race-plan is to push hard and not go for unnecessary moves. I’d love to be on the podium and I think it’s possible to achieve that.”
Sunday’s race is scheduled to start at 1:50pm and will be broadcast live on ITV 4, as part of the channel’s coverage of the British Touring Car Championship.
